A message from Columbia's Villages:
Columbia Home Tour
Be a Part of the First Columbia Home Tour
The City of Columbia is ripe for an annual home tour and the ten villages of Columbia have joined with Columbia Archives to make it happen! The first Columbia Home Tour is well into planning stages and is scheduled for Sunday, June 6, 2010 between the hours of 11am and 5pm.
Our first home tour will highlight the earliest 4 villages - Harper’s Choice, Long Reach, Oakland Mills and Wilde Lake. In subsequent years we will focus on other areas. Each ticket holder will receive a tour booklet and proceed on a city-wide, self-conducted tour.
We have selected 5 homes of interest to open to the public for this exciting event: as well as one Columbia Community Center (Oakland Mills). We are featuring homes that are representative of different housing styles. We have a large renovated town home on the water in Wilde Lake, an exciting contemporary in Hobbits Glen, the unique “Awake House in Oakland Mills, a jazzy renovated patio home in Long Reach and a lovely 2 story brick traditional in Long Reach. In addition, The Other Barn in Oakland Mills will be open between the hours of 1pm and 4pm for ticket holders to visit and enjoy light refreshments while viewing the building and historic displays provided by Columbia Archives.
We will recruit volunteers to augment the homeowners list of friends and family to act as docents.
An event like this contributes to community pride -- pioneer participants and planners will be helping to create this.
This year profits will be donated to the charity, “One Month’s Rent Initiative”. OMR is a private community organization which partners with the Howard Community Council to assist with paying one month’s rent or a security deposit for Howard County residents who are threatened with losing their housing due to a personal, economic, or medical crisis. They simply ask that recipients help someone else with housing sometime during their lifetime.
