Decorate a Bean Bag

Materials

  • Canvas bean bag or other item, such as a plain white apron, baseball cap or tot bag, available at craft stores
  • Washable, non-toxic fabric markers
  • Puffy paint (optional)
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Decorative beads (optional)

Instructions

  1. Use the fabric markers or puffy paint to decorate your bean bag, apron, baseball cap or tote bag.
  2. Add glitter or decorative beads.
  3. Make it your own! Be creative!

Butterfly Bottle

Materials

  • Download Butterfly wing stencil
  • 20-ounce or 1.5-liter plastic bottle
  • Tissue paper in various colors
  • Glue
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • White or colored poster board (12" by 10")
  • Medium-sized brushes
  • Scissors
  • Hole-punch
  • Crayons or oil pastels (optional)
  • Watercolors (optional)
  • 1 1/2-inch Styrofoam ball
  • Google eyes (optional)

Instructions

  1. To create the body of the butterfly, cut the tissue paper into 1-inch or 2-inch squares.
  2. Take the label off a bottle.
  3. In sections, brush the glue on the bottle and cover it with the tissue paper squares, making sure that the pieces overlap slightly.
  4. Continue this until bottle is completely covered with tissue paper. If the edges of the tissue paper are not sticking, lightly brush glue over these pieces to stick them to bottle.
  5. Let the glued tissue paper dry on the bottle.
  6. To create the butterfly wings, print out the wing stencil provided, and cut it out.
  7. Fold the poster board in half in the long direction (poster board should now be folded to 6 inches by 10 inches).
  8. Place the stencil on the folded poster board with the X on the fold. Trace the stencil onto the poster board.
  9. Leave the poster board folded and cut out the wings. They will open up a pair of butterfly wings. Decorate like with crayons, oil pastels, watercolors, etc.
  10. Keep the wings folded, and punch a hole in the center of the wings about an inch from the folded side. Put a pipe cleaner through the hole to attach the wings to the bottle. Add google eyes or other decorations to finish your butterfly.

Airplane Bottle

Materials

  • Download Airplane wing stencil
  • 20-ounce or 1.5-liter plastic bottle
  • Tissue paper in various colors
  • Glue
  • Paint stirrer
  • White or colored poster board (12 inches by 10 inches)
  • 1 1/2-inch Styrofoam ball
  • 2 small craft sticks
  • Medium-sized brushes
  • Scissors
  • Hole-punch
  • Crayons or oil pastels (optional)
  • Watercolors (optional)

Instructions

Starburst Necklace

Candy wrappers help make this necklace fun and colorful.

Materials

  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Necklace clasp
  • Stretchy string or wire
  • 110-130 Starburst wrappers (depends on necklace size)

Instructions

  1. First, measure the size of your neck using the string/wire, and cut it using scissors (add a couple inches).
  2. Next, fold each individual Starburst wrapper into squares about the size of your pinky tip.
  3. String each individual Starburst wrapper on the string or wire using the needle until the thread is full.
  4. Tie the necklace clasps onto the thread.
