Dog Puppet
Kids, ask an adult for help with the scissors when making your dog puppet! These photos of puppets were created at CA's Dog Day Afternoon Welcome Event on April 12. See footage of the event at www.CAmonthly.org.

Dog Puppet

Make this fun dog puppet using any color or pattern you'd like – make a spotted dog, a striped dog or a solid dog in black, brown, white, grey or a silly color.

Materials

  • Paper lunch bag or paper fan (white or brown)
  • Colored construction paper
  • Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Googly eyes

Instructions

  1. If using a paper lunch bag, put the side with the flap face up. The opening of the bag is the bottom of your dog – the flap will be the dog's head.
  2. If using a paper fan, the side with the stick is the back of the dog. The fan is the dog's face.
  3. Using colored construction paper, cut out a nose, whiskers, tongue, ears and other decorations like spots or stripes.
  4. Attach the cut-outs using a glue stick. Tuck the tongue into the flap to glue it. This will allow you to make your dog "talk" by putting your hand in the bag and moving the flap.
  5. Attach the googly eyes with a glue stick.
  6. Use crayons to decorate your dog. You can add spots or stripes, a collar or other decorations.

Have fun making your dog come to life!
